When you order P90X, you will receive the 12 DVDs for the program and the Fitness and Nutrition guides.  Each of the DVDs has one of the workouts.  The Fitness Guide goes into a great deal of depth about each of the workouts, showing you how to do the moves if you want or need to go to a gym to do your workout, and helps you to set goals and track them over the course of your 90 day transformation.  The Nutrition Guide lays out the complete 3-Phase system, designed to help you lose fat, build lean muscle, and maintain high energy levels through each part of the program.  It lays out exactly what you could eat every day to stick to the plan and get informercial-worthy results.  Along with the DVDs, you will need a set of dumbbells or resistance bands, a pull-up bar or door attachment for the resistance bands, and about a 6' x 6' space to workout in.  From there it's up to you and you will get out of it what you put into it.

Before starting P90X, I did the Power 90 series and the Power 90 Master series, trying to build my way up to be ready for the extreme things I saw in the P90X informercials.  By the time I started P90X, I was in passable physical shape, but still had a long way to reach my goals.  In my first round of P90X, I didn't stick to the nutrition plan at all.  I got stronger, grew muscles, and maintained my weight.  My next time through, I started to work in the nutrition plan, and really started to make gains.  The DVDs alone will do alot for your body.  Really incorporating the Nutrition Guide will put you beyond where you thought you could ever go.

I travel for my day job and spend half of the week in a hotel, which means that 4 of my workouts each week are done in a hotel room.  I've been using the bands and door attachments since day 1.  I've progressed to heavier bands and my gains have been impressive.  Although there is no perfect substitute for a pull-up when trying to develop your back, resistance bands can definitely get you started.  Each of the disks shows you how to do each move with a band so you don't have to just "figure it out".  You can truly do P90X anywhere as long as you bring along a couple bands, your DVDs or workout sheets, and your determination.
